Can you do this???

"The divine Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, could also be known as Mother, Child and Womb or Rock, Redeemer and Friend at some Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) services after action by the church's national assembly. Delegates to the meeting voted to receive a policy paper on gender-inclusive language for the Trinity, a step short of approving it. That means that church officials can propose experimental liturgies with alternative phrasings, but that congregations will not be required to use them."

I'm sorry, but, um, Jesus was a man. That is a historical fact -- even for those who believe only in a historical Jesus. For those with a religious bent, He prayed to "Our Father." I'm not being sexist here -- I don't think the gender of God makes any difference in the rights/respect/etc. that should be accorded to a person of any gender.

But this one seems pretty clear-cut to me. This is (a phrase I hate using, because most people who use it are usually wrong) political correctness run amok. It is the perception that something good or righteous must not be identified as "male" or "female," that doing so somehow gives a heightened stature or superiority to one sex or another. But it doesn't, as least not to people that are rational.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a man. As was Abraham Lincoln. And Mother Theresa was a woman. As was Harriett Tubman.

Are we going to start making them gender-neutral, too?
