"Ah, this is true. At least I got you to sand and water in the same area, there are days when I consider this in itself an impressive feat."
Looking around yet again, he shrugs. "I'd think so, there aren't any signs or anything saying otherwise and the water doesn't appear rocky or anything." However,it did seem a bit choppy that day but nothing that would be too much cause for alarm. Not yet anyway.
April doesn't mind choppy. They went to Hawaii once when she was 13 - she still doesn't know why her parents even bothered taking her, but she's glad they did - and she learned to surf. She probably couldn't do it anymore, but it made her fall in love with the ocean.
April squeaks happily and ducks behind a corner to change. "Don't you dare look while I'm changing!" she calls. Not that she thinks he will, just habit.
He laughs, shaking his head. "Don't worry," he tells her as he takes off his coat and shifts few things into his pants pockets. He's not particularly big on the whole water thing, so he's got not plans to run around getting wet but he does lik e the beach. That and he knows it would be rather silly to run around in a waistcoat on one, not that it ever stopped him before but y'know.
When she's fully changed, he takes the first few steps out of the TARDIS, taking a deep breath and grinning. "There's something so wonderful about the smell of the ocean," he says. The ground however seems to disagree (or maybe it agrees just a little too whole-heartedly and gives a tremble beneath his feet.
April squeaks a little, and is very glad that she picked a one-piece and guy's trunks (to wear over it), in case they have to go running around. Much less embarrassing than running around in a bikini.
He walks a few more feet, watching as the water seems to get angrier with each passing moment. "At least I don't think we are. Not on the first trip at least."
"Good to know." She honestly sounds comforted. Mostly. She takes a few cautious steps out, and then says, loudly, "I won't go swimming if you don't want me to. Just... don't earthquake us to death or anything, please?"
"Oh, I've got no problem with it," he calls back, moving towards the water as well but not too terribly close. "Just get out if it becomes too rough."
Gazing out at the sea for a few minutes, he can't help but shake the feeling that he's missed something terribly important. "Just be careful," he adds quickly. "I'd hate to bring back damaged goods."
"I won't go in too deep," she says. Really, at this point, she'll just wade. But it's still the ocean! She flashes a big smile and jogs down to the water's edge, letting the waves splash over her feet.
She'd almost forgotten how beautiful the ocean was.
April loses her balance, too, landing on her ass in about a foot and a half of water. She laughs. This is nice. Relaxing. She can really think in a place like this.
"I don't think it likes you is what it is," she declares teasingly.
He grins at her, trying not to laugh but losing the battle. "You think,"he calls back while hesitantly attempting to get to his feet. "I haven't done anything to it! Okay fine, I'm not the biggest advocate of preserving the environment but it doesn't mean that it has to knock me down every five minutes!"
He only gets a few more feet, close enough to fall into the water as the earth trembles , this time lasting longer than any of the others.
Gazing at the girl, he raises an eyebrow. "You know, I'm getting the sinking suspicion that we may not be welcome here."
"'We'?" April asks innocently, when she's recovered from laughing at the Doctor being all wet. "What is this 'we' of which you speak? I think it likes me just fine."
She is quickly proven wrong by another tremor as she tries to wade closer to him. "Dammit."
He's scowling at her but only for a few minutes. Fine, it may not be so bad to get wet but he's at least got to keep up appearances a little. "There most certainly is a we in this, if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me!"
But before he can act on this threat, the earth has done it for her. "Ha!" he cries out triumphantly. "It hates us both equally!"
No sooner had his words been spoken than a large white dog appears on the beach, barking madly at them. It stands at the the edge, just far enough so the water doesn't reach it's paws.
"Oh...Oh dear," The Doctor scrambles to his feet, struggling and falling back down a few times before he manages to stay upright. "There's a good boy, we're not gonna hurt you.
He looks to April, gesturing for her to come closer.
April scrambles as best she can over to the Doctor, looking at the dog warily. "Where did he come from? He wasn't there a second ago, where'd he come from?"
"I don't know," he whispers back. "Move slowly, let's not do anything that might give him a reason to come any closer."
Very slowly, he takes a few steps back.
The dog continues to bark for a few moments but it pauses, lifts it's head to the air and sniffs. A moment later a young woman appears not too far away and starts running towards the animal.
The dog turns and runs back to her, it's manner changed entirely from what it had been just seconds before. "I'm sorry," she calls out sinking to the floor next to her pet. ""You can come out, he won't do anything."
The turns to look at April grinning. "See, I knew thigs would be fine."
Because it's been way too long since she got to go swimming.

He starts to leave but the earth trembles again, this time to the point where it knocks him off his feet.
"....Or I'll stay here, that's fine too, I suppose."
