They work well together because Yuri’s good at hiding what she thinks is hideous and Jessica’s better at never noticing, giving enough reason for Yuri not to run off.

By the time Jessica knocks on the bathroom door and asks to use the toilet, her nails are ground down and even in length (as they were before) but now the tips of her fingers are red and raw.

Jessica reminds Yuri she’s perfect and Yuri smiles but never actually agrees. She cares too much about what the world thinks and Jessica only cares about her own opinion. Consequently, Yuri never ends up understanding what Jessica knows and Jessica never notices what Yuri thinks.
So, Yuri ends up hiding her problems well because Jessica never has enough tact to realize.
Ironically, that’s where they don’t work.
