Well what do we have here? October, the month that was supposed to be the eighth month had we stuck to the old roman calendar. Time is moving at the speed of light; not literally, but fast enough. I wish I had pictures to illustrate how busy I was, and still am, with school and life, but photography has taken a back seat lately. I miss my cameras. (Actually, I did take a few ridiculous pictures but you can see all of them on Facebook.)
I met up with a friend yesterday afternoon. It had been a year since I last saw her, and before yesterday, I didn't know her that well. But she was coming to attend an ex-colleague's wedding and suggested that we meet up. I am so glad that we did. We went for lunch and chatted away like old friends. She told me of the struggles that she faced while trying to get a job in New Zealand, of her many crazy adventures with friends that she made down under, and, she even taught me (in theory) how to light a fireplace. She also told me one precious lesson that she learnt from her NZ adventure, and that is to live life spontaneously.
Many people around me tend to over-plan their life. They plan to get married in two years; they plan to give birth to their first child when they're 26-years-old; they plan to achieve a certain position in the industry in four years. I'm not saying that it's not a good thing because it is, to an extent, but it's not me. It's not my friend. Of course, it is helpful to have a general idea of where you want to be and what you want to be in the near future, but too much planning can take the fun out of life. Sometimes, knowing what your next step is going to be is enough.
Our rendezvous has led me to find someone my equal. We share the same sentiments on food and travel, we have a similar outlook on life, and on top of that, I'm able to talk to her about my opinions on our society and current issues. Indeed, we had so much to talk about that before we knew it, more than four hours had flown by and we parted with promises to meet up soon, maybe in Japan (together with our dearest MK!) or in London. That woman never stays in one city for long, she is always on the move.
