Okay, maybe I'm going crazy, but...

This thing keeps writing in itself, and I really don't know what's up with that. But as crazy as my life is right now, maybe I should just write this out.

My name's Amber McKeenan. I'm 16 years old, go to high school, play guitar, all that normal stuff, but... weird stuff's been happening. I think maybe I have powers or something.See, when that ( Read more... )

You're not going crazy, I promise.

Not that hearing that from a magic notebook is very reassuring, probably. Sorry.

Hi. I'm Annie.

Wow, this thing's really writing back.

Uh, hi. I'm Amber. CRAP I wrote that already!

I'm pretty new at this. Obviously.

This is a really stupid question, but are you like some magical person who lives inside my journal or something? 'cause just from what I've been reading, I feel like I'm the only person in the world who didn't get any kind of instructions for this.

So, yeah, are you... real?

No, I don't live inside your journal. That would be weird, and probably very boring. Though probably more interesting than where I am now... Anyway.

Yes, I'm real. It's a magic notebook. That sort of... connects to the notebooks of other magical... type... people. It just showed up one day, right? Right around the earthquake?

Yeah, it showed up right after!

...So you're a magical-type person, too? What kind? Are there kinds?

Well, angels and demons, obviously, but... I'm really sorry if I'm being annoying. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.

I hope it's not totally improprietous of me to interrupt this lovely thread of discussion. I mean no offense.

For the sake of transparency and honesty, I'll state here that I am also a Demon. You'll find a great deal of fear and superstition surrounding us, Amber, much of it dating back to thousands of years before the birth of Christ. To assume that it's all relevant today would be akin to applying the same ideas about human culture; we change, we evolve. I myself have been working as a doctor at the VA Medical Center on Damen Avenue, under the name Ellen Ashtart. I assure you, should you check in with the staff and clients there, you'll find that no one has a bad word to say of me.

I of course cannot excuse my entire race! Just as humans do, we have our criminals. But for the most part, 'Demon' is our species, not our profession. Though I haven't personally met Annie, I would be inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt.

A pleasure to encounter you, Amber, even mediated by these impersonal journals.
