I think I may go to law school.

Thoughts?

I would not recommend it either, really, but it's been a thought since sophomore year when my favorite philosophy teacher started prodding me towards it. Apparently it's one of few professions where a working knowledge of philosophy, English, and psychology can help going in.

I also talked to a lawyer who said that he wished his little lawyer underlings had some understanding of English, especially. And there are law jobs (so my philosophy teacher says) that involve research, writing, and basically not talking to people, which is what her husband does.

No personal interest in it, really, but I'm remarkably ill-suited to much else and my philosophy teacher has told me about certain cases that her husband made a difference in by working behind the scenes, and that's... pretty cool. I'd like to do something that means something and makes the world a better place. Plus, it'd be silly to get a masters in English or philosophy. I think the bachelors gives a person all the tools necessary to learn whatever he or she wants about either; I wouldn't mind learning something new. And law would be really, really new since I don't know anything about it that wasn't written prior to about 300 AD.

I hear they have nice law schools out east, too.

There are some nice law schools out here. Is her husband a paralegal? That sounds like it would be a mostly research and writing-oriented job.

If you want, I can ask my dad about jobs in the law/law school recommendations. Though considering the conniption he had when I briefly flirted with going to law school, I think the first words out of his mouth will be "DON'T." XD;;

Paralegal! That's the one! Derp.

XD If he won't fly into a fit of NOOOOO, that would be very cool. I should be able to get in just about anywhere (in theory). This is also just something I'm pondering in a serious fashion for the first time ever. If you or anyone else in the world can tell me what else to do with my completely random majors and minors that isn't teaching, I will listen most eagerly!

Personally, I would seriously look into getting some kind of administrative job at Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. My mom works in the online division, and I worked there briefly too. It's a nice, very quiet, laid back place. I have no idea what jobs are open right now and depending on the job they might want a masters, but it's a really lovely place.

I also just recommend academia in general. There are lots of jobs at universities that don't involve standing in front of a group of disinterested students. XD

But yes, I will talk to mah daddy. :3

That DOES sound pleasant. I want moar education, though. No one in my family--either side--has ever had a masters, let alone a doctorate.

I'm afraid of academia. XD I practically lived at UNO my entire life and I've seen many unpleasant sides of it, particularly on the staff side of things. (Fittingly, my mother is currently going onandonandon about how much her job as a staff member at the U pisses her off. XD)

Your dad is adorable. If he needs an extra daughter...

Hell, if your family needs an extra daughter...!

Moar education is good! I approve.

Awwwwww. :( In that case, no academia jobs!

My dad is adorable. Maddening sometimes, but adorable. And since you've already graduated from college, I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind adopting you! XD

HEY. YOU COULD BE MY DAD'S PARALEGAL! XD

IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO BE YOUR DAD'S PARALEGAL.

My therapist said that she thinks I'm more qualified to be one right now than most of her clients who are paralegals. XD I did a little poking around the interwebs (very, very little) and it seems like it doesn't take too long education-wise. Could do that... maybe take some more school on the side when I has moneys.

Anyway! I just sent my lovely philosophy professor who thinks that law is amazing an email expressing both my interest and cluelessness. I suspect her great enthusiasm will be enough to propel me into doing something.

...Considering doing something.

COME HERE. WE HAVE A GUEST ROOM. AND MY DAD WORKS FROM HOME. You could paralegal for room and board. Or something. xD /stops thinking

Yeah, from the very little poking I've done too, you'd be pretty qualified right now on a purely paper level. Further education would be good because of the heavy competition, however.

Let me know what she says! And I'll ask my dad about it when we talk next. /always happy to help push when it comes to getting you out of your mother's house :P ♥

Nap well! ♥

I would so work for your father! :D

I will look into it sometime when I care (which is not now, as I am waiting for laundry to dry so I can fold it and take a nap). I haven't heard back from her, which makes sense since it's summer, but I'll let you know. And yes, further education seems to be an inevitable part of my future. XD

♥ x a billion
