My New Name is French
Acrylic on Luon
03/2006
12" x 8"

I'm very pleased with this one. If you know French, or at least have a good sense of linguistics, then you will realize that the text in this painting says "ambitious". I used this because I reintroduced the hollyhock flowers (like "In Spite of the Outside World"). This piece involved a love/hate relationship with the wood panel. The paint would be soaked up by the wood and sometimes travel in the grain, even if I had the piece level. I liked this effect sometimes, but a lot of times it pissed me off, especially with smaller marks. Anyway, I enjoy this one because I think it's getting me back on track. I have been depressed for a while about my artwork and not very confident, but the success of this piece has heightened my
ambitious nature.
Because I have one. I really do!
