Lionel Messi is reportedly set to be replaced by James Rodriguez as the face of FIFA 17 . Meanwhile, there have been rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be replaced as Nike's 'number one' star.

Lionel Messi's time as the face of the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise could be about to end. Messi has been the worldwide face of FIFA since FIFA 13.

According to reports from L'Equipe, Messi's contract with EA SPORTS is set to expire before the next game and an extension to his current deal looks unlikely. EA have already been looking at alternative options, with Real Madrid star James Rodriguez the apparent front runner.

Also, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be replaced as Nike's 'number one' star, according to a report in Spanish financial paper El Economista.

Despite engaging in an almost career-long battle with Lionel Messi to be considered the world's best player, it is the Argentine's team-mate Neymar who is set to replace Ronaldo as the face of the American sportswear giant.

Nike have reportedly been considering the switch since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but opted to wait until Neymar achieved a "better standing" in Europe.
