It's 2015. It's enough.

It's specially ridiculous to play that excuse when it comes to fantasy, as always. Shut up or just admit you're racist.

mte. You can have magic but not POC?

Exactly, it's super glaring when genre films/tv do it because they ask the audience to suspend their belief about everything else but having POC pop up is too unbelievable.

lol and dead at the low-key trying to make the wizarding world ~*progressive*~ by making them more "inclusive". What a joke.

They can't show poc in period pieces unless they're slaves, servants, or fighting for civil rights, I guess that's all black people were back then (eye roll) This shit is getting old. I still want a black Downton Abbey, there were wealthy black Victorians upstate and there's even pics of them.

lol i always love the argument ~but black people didn't exist/were slaves/were servants in the 20s!~ when women like this existed back then https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%27Lelia_Walker

Movies with more green/blue people than POC are ridiculous.

Game of Thrones has seasons that last for years, and dragons, and it isn't even technically the earth planet, but the sexual violence must accurately reflect the reality of Europe in the 1400s

i get so annoyed when people on here pull out the 'oh come on, you KNOW it's based on medieval europe and the middle ages, like WAR OF THE ROSES, HELLO' as a response to 'but dragons...and every other zombie, magic, shapeshifting thing in the books' like, ok he took plot ideas and ideas for worldbuilding from the war of the roses but IT'S A BOOK/TV SHOW. HE/THEY CAN WRITE WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH RAPE.

I agree. I hate it when people forget that authors have complete control over their stories. There's obviously a longstanding tradition of fantasy authors pulling from Medieval England, which is a tendency that comes from the larger traditions of folklore. Like, I get it.

BUT. The Germ is from New fucking Jersey. There is so much rich folklore from the United States if someone would put the effort into researching it and writing it respectfully. We don't need an American writing more knights and swords and dragons when no one has ever done justice to the Native American nations or the Salem witches or like...Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil on route 66. Twilight is the only mainstream fantasy that touched on any of that, so there's a lot of room to do a better job of it.

To bring this full circle, I hate it when people blanch at the idea that the Germ and D+D write rape simply because they like it.

That and it's not even straight Medieval Europe influences by *any* means. Their weaponry and technology is far more advanced than the Middle Ages, putting the magic aside.

The worst part is that the violence in GoT/ASOIAF isn't accurate for the time period it's inspired by.
