exactly. you need to influence other artists to be ~iconic. I suppose we'll see in ten years if the next batch of singer/songwriters cite Swift as an influence on their sound.
When I first heard Fight Song, I was confused because the singer sounded just like Taylor and it was the kind of anodyne song that Taylor would sing (or at least, would have sung a few years ago) but I knew it couldn't be her. These bland artists have to stick together, I guess!
Out of interest, which Taylor songs do you think will stand the test of time and be considered her signature songs a few years or decades down the line? I'm kind of drawing a blank on what they would be even now - everyone knew Love Story a few years back but seem to have forgotten about it now. I'd much prefer her songs like All Too Well were remembered but I have a feeling it's going to be crap (imo, sorry) like WANEGBT. Maybe IKYWT and Shake It Off?
Sorry to but in but if it's Shake it Off I will light myself on fire. No way are my children going to be singing that song when they're my age like I sing my mother's oldies hits.
Oh god, can you imagine? It seems to be the song everyone knows by her and the main song associated with her (at least where I live) but hopefully that's just because it was the first single for this era :|
I hope that's it too. I hope everyone forgets about it and the SUPERIOR SONGS #justiceforstyle are what remains in her legacy. Which I think it will, Shake it Off is loved by people who aren't going to be talking about her for years to come. Her fans know that what songs should have longevity. OH GOD I HOPE.
