I feel like stories like this are sometimes embellished tbh. Not that I think this isn't a reality for some people, but I feel like actors can be dramatic lol. Like, "I was living out of my car (but I was actually crashing at friends places so I wasn't actually living in it)" kind of things.

exactly. my boyfriend's best friend "lives" in his car yet sleeps on our couch 1-2 nights a week.

...That's not a distinctive upgrade from living in one's car.
Because couch surfing is awful. It's still not a fixed address.

I thought you were gonna say "he has his own place but chooses to live in a car" or something that might've made sense

I'm not saying that it doesn't suck having a fixed address as I was in that situation my first month in LA. I was agreeing with OC that sometimes these stories are embellished. Like he says he lives in his car but he doesn't actually sleep in it.

I guess I get it. Maybe the distinction should be made between voluntary ~bohemien style~ vs involuntaryinvoluntary car-living, idk

Having no fixed address is horrible, though. Doesnt matter if it's friend's places or a car.

yeah ia, or there are people in a position where they can choose to live out of a van/car. that's not the same as being forced to live in a car.

Yea, like, you may be living in your car trying to make it in LA but that's not to say you wouldn't have a family to go home to if you needed/wanted to.

It's ridiculous to me. But I also don't really feel for them because with the exception of Kelly Clarkson's apartment burning down (and maybe Hilary Swank) it sounds like voluntary homelessness.

True but It's worth it in the end.

Anyone who makes it is the exception to the rule though, for every "keep going because you'll eventually make it, you just have to work hard and keep at it" story, there are hundreds of stories where people never did.
