It all started so nicely, band wearing Polish t-shirts, Mozz in cheerful spirits, attempting to speak Polish... and then this whatever incident. Whyyy has it had to happen in Warsaw? The guy who screamed that was not even Polish (heavy Mancunian accent) and now who knows if Mozza ever comes back to Warsaw!
This is opinion from morrissey-solo forum which I really agree with(longish but worth reading):
Ok, I've slept on what happened last night and woken up not calmer but more disgusted by what happened last night.
Morrissey doesn't owe his fans anything above and beyond respecting them and their support for him. Last night I believe he behaved with complete contempt and disregard for the people who he should cherish, particularly in a foreign country where chances to see him are rare.
Morrissey has many principles. He talks about corruption and leaders who lie. He talks about his sensitivity and his love of the vulnerable. Last night he was a hypocrite. He demonstrated all the deplorable notions that he writes about. What really sticks in my throat is two fold. Firstly, he hid behind a lie. He said he 'did not feel safe'. He left the stage because someone shouted 'just say it'. I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind about this. His reaction was prompted by this comment which everyone heard. It was an unnecessary comment. Nothing more. However, his safety was not jeopardised. He felt so unsafe that he had the temerity to shamefully turn his back to his audience for a whole song.
Secondly, this 'lie' about an alleged 'insult' in my mind could have easily put someone in danger. With emotions high, for a witch hunt to be administered with people desperate for the gig to continue I am thankful that no one was offered as a scapegoat and battered there and then. This was a real possibility. I have sympathy with the band because they would have been desperate as we were and willing to do whatever was needed to get the show back on. As a result to appease Morrissey they had to be seen to be 'doing something'. To see his band members desperately inciting some kind of witch hunt on the basis of well...nothing, was alarming and very very embarrassing. It's interesting how no one pointed anyone out and no one from the band was able or willing to say what this comment was.
Lets talk about sensitivity for a moment. Morrissey is very sensitive when it comes to himself and his own ego. When it comes to others he has a sudden sensitivity block. A horrible juxtaposition! I take comfort in the irony that those who defend Morrissey to the hilt and those that see their defense as some kind of romantic loyalty to the man are probably the ones that Morrissey holds in the highest scorn.
Yeah, his behavior was not unexpected but to suffer because of some idiot really sucks.
On Sunday he was playing in Helsinki, so many stage invasions occurred there, with one guy even LIFTING singing Mozza and he just laughed it off. After 3 days in Warsaw he walks because someone shouted something? He's clearly having some serious mood swings.
Sorry for your cancellation those years ago - but as you say, Moz-reasons.
