The second of Weird Al Yankovic's 8 new videos came out today, a parody of "Blurred Lines" called "Word Crimes." Basically Al is calling out all the people who abandon grammar once they're behind a keyboard. (Guilty.)
Well I edit freelance so yeah. My full-time job is as a technical writer, which I'm kind of over doing but it pays the bills and I'm just trying to focus on the fact that I won't be doing it forever. :o) I'm trying to build up my freelance writing/editing experience and portfolio to hopefully do that full time one day.
It really depends on the client re: the last part. I haven't run into an issue with grammar/punctuation stuff yet where they've overruled me. Style preferences, yes, but I'm cool with that as long as they're clear about what styling they want me to use and it's consistent. I refuse to put my name on something inconsistent.
At my full-time job, however...my boss is very annoying and inconsistent and overrules me constantly. It's fucking annoying and not cute. I tried to tell him why I embrace and use contractions and he said it's too informal. I'm like um, but actually, I'm the expert on instructional documentation and the quicker you can get something across, the better, but OK Grammar Expert. Why did you hire me?
So yeah. My freelance work is way less stressful - and more fun. :o)
Yep. People don't get that language EVOLVES. If anything, contractions are more useful in instructional documentation than anything else. He (my boss) is also really bad about passive language, so I don't take anything he says regarding English seriously, lol. He had the gall to tell me that while I have more writing experience, he has more life experience. For example, he has a pilot's license. Like great dude, if we're ever stuck on a deserted island, I'll work on asking you to pilot us out of there before killing myself but that really has nothing to do with what we're talking about right now.
lmao, what does him having life experience and a pilot's license have to do with knowledge about the English language? That is some serious bullshit, and sounds like he just wants to be in control because he's older and a man (I take it you're a woman).
Fucking bingo. Today he asked me to take this photo out of a blog post because it looks questionable. Like WTF? The blog post talks about sleeping and I'm in a fucking princess costume with a race medal on. GTFO with your misogynistic ass. I can't wait to leave here, lol, can you tell?
hahahaha. What. Not to mention you're wearing shorts underneath that dress as well, so I don't even know what is left to suggest that it looks questionable.
