Band discuss potential collaboration with Australian friends

MGMT have said that they are keen to work with Pond.

The two bands have not collaborated on any material so far but know each other through Pond's connections to Tame Impala, who supported MGMT on tour in 2010. Former Tame Impala bassist Nick Allbrook is the frontman in Pond and Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT revealed in a new interview with Triple J that he is keen to work with the 'Hobo Rocket' band in the near future.

"We always try to get up in the mix with those guys," VanWyngarden said of a prospective collaboration. "Maybe we'll do something crazy together."

Meanwhile, MGMT recently revealed the surreal video for new single 'Your Life Is A Lie'. In the video the band are joined by a number of different characters including a choir of skeletons, actor Henry Winkler consoling a young girl - and a crying pebble. The track is taken from the band's forthcoming, self-titled third album, due for release in September.

Speaking about 'MGMT' earlier this year, the band stated that the album is "less distraught, nervous and paranoid" than 2010's 'Congratulations'. The New York duo, Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, discussed feeling "more at ease" with themselves as a band than they did three years ago. VanWyngarden said: "We’re feeling a little bit more at ease and ready to take whatever comes our way. First and foremost we feel like we’ve made a really good album that reflects who we are right now, which is a little bit less distraught, nervous and paranoid than we were three years ago. For lots of different reasons, 2010 was a wild ride for us."

MGMT will tour the UK later this year, playing four dates in October including a gig at London's Forum.

MGMT will play:

Glasgow ABC1 (October 12)
Wolverhampton Civic (13)
Manchester O2 Apollo (14)
London Forum (16)
