Clearasil sticks with MTV's 'Skins' as other firms flee

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Clearasil isn't steering away from the controversial MTV series "Skins," whose racy content was too much for advertisers such as General Motors, Wrigley and Taco Bell.

The acne products firm remains on board as a sponsor, and will announce on Monday's show that it has formed a new partnership with MTV.

Called "Make the Clear Choice," the public service campaign promotes awareness and education about drug and alcohol abuse, sexual health and self esteem. Clearasil will also launch a Facebook campaign, and will donate up to $30,000 to split among three non-profit organizations.

Though the conservative Parents Television Council claims "Skins" violates pornography laws, MTV is standing by its show, insisting it accurately covers the way teens live today -- similar themes to the network's new campaign with Clearasil. The show revolves around misfit teens who dabble in drink, drugs and sex.

"I have lost count of the letters we have been sent by viewers who tell us that they have been able to approach their parents or teachers with their difficulties after watching the show," Skins creator Bryan Elsley said last month. "It is something that we take a great deal of pride in and which can unfortunately be eclipsed by some of the negative attention."

This shit is rough to watch. Hopefully it will get better?
