Yeah, I remember when I first read HBP I was expecting like an fantasy war-time epic (I dunno, looking back I was pretty delusion) and I was like..wtf? when I read it.

I agree. But then the books got longer and nobody knew how to handle them right. I think Goblet of Fire was okay too but the editing sucked badly.
