My only experience with French people is that I had a French boss and he was such a jerk but I couldn’t tell if he was actually being mean, or just French. Then another French woman at my job, not my boss, who told me how easy it was to make baguettes, and when she explained, it was NOT easy lmao.
So, fuck the French I i guess is what I’m saying ( except for all the French Ontders, I know you guys are lovely)!!!!
I haven't had bad experiences with the French (which is really not a lot lol) but the few times I managed to get on the Euro side of IG, when the other europeans talks about who are the friendliest and not so Friendly tourists, they all unanimously tend to mention that French are the most rude and snooty.
Which actually surprised me cause as an American, you always hear about the ugly american stereotype but a few of them mentioned that they tend to find Americans as more open and friendly lol.
You're been lied too XD They were probably trying to be nice to you.
I've worked in tourism (am french) Top 5 Worst type of tourists we've had are easily: - - chinese, american in a League of their own - then french, germans spanish (but for different reasons) No contest
My objective experience in CS dealing with tourists: Germans are the absolute worst. French are actually very quiet and keep to themselves. Americans are friendly but will treat you like a child. Japanese customers are the nicest.
Do think that top tiers might slightly differ depending on country. Because I would put Italians on top and so would my colleagues. Followed closely by French and Spanish. I'm in Scotland though and I think it does depend on where and who etc
Americans are same here as for loveumbrella. Mostly friendly but bit condescending at times. But not realising that everyone rolls their eyes at their stupid questions and them mentioning all the time how they're over here in Scotland and Ireland because they're 1/24 Scottish/Irish. Lol.
French exchange students were always the bane of our existence during Master's. There was literally only one exception and she wasn't on exchange but a full-time student lmao (and she avoided other French like plague). Once I even had a displeasure to have a group project with three French students, they refused to communicate with the rest of us and it was like presenting two different ppts in one in the end. Our professors hated them with passion because they were rude af and ignored their requests to stop speaking during classes. I really don't like to generalize but by the time of graduation I was quite fed up, and my friends had identical experiences.
In college, I was stuck on a group project with a pair of French exchange students. I took the hardest pieces, and the work they turned in was directly plagiarized from the course's textbook. Word for word. If I noticed, the grader would notice, so I had little choice but to stay up all night and redo it all myself.
Things that bug me is that French people are the only people in the world that get angry at you for trying to learn their language, when you aren't perfect and they refuse to try help you improve. I don't expect you to be excited and roll out the red carpet because I am trying to learn your language, but most people at least bare min help you along the way.
like germans, who will just bluntly go "no you're wrong" and explain in perfect english where you messed up on their 7397890324 versions of the word the and then say "sorry if my english isn't the best. I would consider it quite elementary"
Man, I had a completely different experience. People were nice to me for making an effort to speak french.
Some of them, after hearing me, immediately switched to english but I didn't find that rude, since I do the same when people try to speak to me in terrible spanish. It's about being efficient.
nah, my experience with French people is that they will correct you at any point, which is annoying because like jean-claude you get my point even if i did accidentally misgender a coffee pot
but on the other hand they will cream their pants if they discover someone they didnt suspect speaks french
So, fuck the French I i guess is what I’m saying ( except for all the French Ontders, I know you guys are lovely)!!!!

Same experience, all the people I encountered in France were always nice to me when I tried my little "je voudrais" to get food.
But I did get immediately humbled at a McDonald's when my French order was met with a perfect "Would you like fries with that?" in English.
