I liked it for several reasons - acting, atmosphere, cinematography - but definitely had some issues with it, too, most notably the pacing. I don't mind a long movie if it can maintain a sense of momentum, but after a great first act, this one did not. And ultimately the ending kind of fell flat because of it.
On a more positive note, Nicholas Hoult is having a year, damn! And Lily Rose Depp was fantastic - she's not afraid to look gross and/or weird, and I think that's really helpful for this kind of role. And try as I might, I could not see any Bill Skarsgard in that character - crazy how much he just disappeared into it.
Might go see something today, not sure yet - Better Man is a possibility, as my husband has negative interest in seeing it, but I am vaguely curious thanks to the positive reviews.
A Timothée Chalamet retrospective starts this weekend, and while I missed tickets for the Q&As (still really fucking mad about it!!) I'm going to a couple other screenings in that series - ( ... )

I'm trying to get ahead of the track this year. I've seen 25/57 on this predictive list.

Going to see Nosferatu on Friday... have managed to avoid conversation around it thus far

I watched Nosferatu the past week. My expectations were high and the movie didn’t quite meet them. I still liked it though and thought everyone did well. I do wish I could see what Anya Taylor Joy would’ve done with the role. I had to look away at many gory scenes and the Count specifically. Shoutout to anyone who sat through the whole movie with their parents. Braver than our soldiers.
I don’t know if the theater will have anything I want to watch this week but I do want to watch something so it might have to be A Complete Unknown. A begrudging win for Club Chalamet. 😔

Then the whiplash I had reading “Director Steve Pink was also responsible for Hot Tub Time Machine” for The Last Republican.

I'll be checking out Wallace and Gromit for sure. Feathers McGraw!
From Ground Zero - I can't say I necessarily want to watch it, but I feel like it's a must watch.
Also I just noticed there's two movies this week titled The Damned. I'm interested in the Icelandic one!
