In an Instagram post made Sunday, Kate Beckinsale discusses at length some of her negative experiences during moviemaking including harassment, assault and abuse.
[tw for sexual assault, eating disorder, misogynist slurs, abuse]* She opens by saying she can't speak directly about the Blake Lively situation as she doesn't know anyone involved personally, but states there is "a machine that goes into effect when a woman complains about something legitimately offensive, upsetting, harmful, whatever, in this industry." * Says she once complained about a male co-star who was habitually drunk and persistently held up filming for hours each day, and in return was called a "c**t" and "stupid bitch" to her face * Says she's had people say things like "how are we going to make her attractive" while standing in front of her, and claims that on at least two separate occasions she was put on such a strict diet that she stopped having her period * Says that on two separate projects, she was injured in fight scenes to the point of needing MRIs and alleges that she was ostracized on set when she complained about it. She says "there's a kind of actor who gets a thrill out of legally harming a woman during a fight sequence" * Says she was told by her then-publicist that she had to pose for a photoshoot the day after she had a miscarriage and was threatened with a lawsuit when she tried to refuse * Says she was never harassed personally by Harvey Weinstein but knew full well that if you refused any of his projects he'd call everyone in town telling them "don't use her" * She says when she was eighteen she was groped by "someone I trusted" and went to a female co-star who was known to be outspoken on behalf of women's rights, and the co-star told her it didn't happen * She says she sees men claiming that things like this happened long ago and that the climate in Hollywood is very different now: "No it fucking isn't" * Says that if you speak up about mistreatment, "you're fucked" because "a machine goes into effect to absolutely destroy you" and that this same thing goes on in other industries
