They literally sing about the power of friendship in the second act. It is quite literally an "uplifting Broadway musical about friendship".

The amount of people I have talked to that don’t pay attention whatsoever to the lyrics in songs absolutely boggles me mind. “I just like how it sounds…” bitch, me too, but what’s being said matters too! The hell!?

I can kind of understand that for general pop songs but in a musical? The songs are only there to help tell the story.
