"playing the part of a ditzy, blonde, white, really villain when it comes right down to it for this particular movie."

Haven't seen the movie....but a hit dog will holler.

Was there something familiar about Glinda to you?

But I get the confusion as Ariana is an italian white woc which is almost latino. Common mistake (yuh).

I know you were being sarcastic, but I'm Italian and I've been told straight to my face that I'm 'not really white' by someone who considers me a friend. When explained where the word Caucasian comes from, she then told me that Caucasian is almost white, but not quite. White is white.

Thing is, she wasn't even trying to be mean. She truly believed it.

This MAGA woman is totally making shit up to get more listeners.

It's old anti-immigrant sentiment tbh. Irish and Slavic immigrants weren't considered white either

The idea that Irish aren't white is funny to me. I mean if they were any more north, they'd be in the arctic. Slavic I can see, if we're talking about South Slavic immigrants because they'd be considered they are like the Italians and the Greeks, etc.

Yes, only mozzarella white qualifies apparently.

And again, she wasn't even mean about and she is married to a brown Puerto Rican. She wasn't being malicious at all, but living in NYC, it was the first time that I had even heard that and it stayed with me through the years.

I wonder what she'd have said if my DNA report said that I have 3% African blood.

Same. As someone who is Jewish, Slavic, AND Italian I’ve had some weird conversations on my whiteness. Especially in regards to my Jewishness. Lots of awkward conversations on conditional whiteness and the history of how certain European immigrant groups were originally considered non-white and how over time they have been brought under the umbrella of whiteness.

That’s not to say these groups aren’t white but there is some nuance in regards to history.

You hit the trifecta. I have a lots of Jewish friends and they are all white, but they went through the same thing, especially since we're older so different generations too.

I don't even think she thought I was white. True I'm a darker Italian (Sicilian) and as soon as I'm in the sun, people always assume that I'm from South America thanks to my very mixed background. Sicilians are just not white for her.

Heheh. I will admit, I thought Ariana Grande was Cuban for the longest time because of her last name and because she was from Florida…. I don’t think I realized she was in fact of Italian descent until I came on ONTD. I think a lot of people might have made that same assumption as me because of her last name and being from Florida.

My family is Colombian and my mom was convinced she was Cuban for the longest and didn’t believe me when I said she’s Italian lol.
