December 1, 2024 The movies are so back.
Moana 2 set a new five-day Thanksgiving weekend record at the box office with a $221 million dollar take, absolutely dominating the previous record holder Frozen II's $125 million haul. Surely, the folks responsible for converting the sequel from a Disney+ show to a theatrical release are feeling vindicated right now, and movie theaters are thankful to receive such a huge boon in business.
Wicked continued to crush in its second weekend of release, bringing in $117 million during the five day period.
Gladiator 2 also had a good five days, bringing in $44 million. The film was very expensive to make, with a reported $250 million budget, but has already made $112 million domestic and $320 million worldwide.
Red One and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever rounded out the box office top five with $18.7 million and $4.8 million across five days, respectively.
