'down'?

Falling is sufficient, mod-it implies a downward motion.

He could have fallen on a hill.

But he didn’t, or I would’ve said that.

Ok lol, let me explain. Headlines are often "shortcut" because they are designed to be concise, typically omitting articles and prepositions ("a," "the," “off”), “and” often substituted with a comma. This is why headlines often sound like broken English. The definition of fall is to go down. While "fall down" is a common phrase, "fall" can be used on its own. “Leaves fall.” “He fell.” “I was falling in my dream.” “I fell in the kitchen.” “Fall” or “falling” in itself is sufficient to describe what happened to Jay Leno. Source: my education. In any case, it’s not worth nitpicking. I promise you nobody goes to ONTD for its grammar.

As a former journalist/still a writer, I can tell you no headline would say "falling a hill."

I’m dying that after this entire exchange, it was 'off' that was added to the title. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Are you fucking serious? Now I am dying.

Hopefully English is the OPs 4th language, because... come on now.

"Falling a hill"‽

Sorry, ivn. I do not hate you at all. And sorry to pile on. It is just cracking me up and I needed to laugh desperately, so, thank you! 100% honestly.

I wasn’t laughing at the mistake, they happen even if someone is a native speaker. I was just laughing that after the whole debate and admitting the other users were right, they opted for ‘off’ not ‘down’ like they suggested 🤣 I wasn’t trying to be mean or suggest they don’t know English, just found the resolution funny 🤣

No, I agree. I didn't need to add that necessary dig in there. I thought I was being funny but it just come across mean, now that I'm rereading it. Ugh!

Sometimes the old ONTD in me jumps out.

Edit: I just got what you mean about the word choice. Derp. I'm an idiot! 🙃 🙄 😆
