I like this show but it's wild that Alice can have dinner and be laughing with the guy that killed her mom. I'd be in jail for murdering him if it were me.

Also, I really hate cheating plotlines with couples that are solid. It's lazy, cliche, and so boring. Think of better issues they can argue about.

I haven’t watched tonight’s episode… But going off of last week, I don’t mind that she forgave him, and I like the idea of this particular arc… but the whole thing is falling really flat for me and I can’t quite put my finger on it. We really needed to see that first big interaction with Brian. And this might’ve changed in tonight’s episode, but I really do feel like we need to hear about that night from his side? Narratively we need to understand that night better, especially if the show is trying to not villainize him? Like, there’s a big difference between a repeat offender with no remorse, versus somebody who just made a devastatingly stupid decision.

I feel like it falls flat for me because none of it was really earned. Brian forgave him because the dude is sad and feels bad? He SHOULD feel awful, he did something he can never undo and hurt literally everyone that loved Tia.

I get Alice having the arc and of needing to move on from Tia's death but forgiving him for herself is one thing and continuing to chill with this guy is completely another. Again, it doesn't feel earned by Brett's character whatsoever.

ITA - there's a huge difference between "my mom would have wanted me to stop hating you, forgive you, and move forward with my life" and "let's hang out and giggle together!"

I just finished the episode and I agree. That storyline is so weird and unrealistic to me. They didn't explain why he was drunk, I assume it's because his gf died, or left him or something like that, but I wish we'd find it all out before this episode because this is just weird. I mean, it would be weird even if he didn't have a tragic backstory, like being constantly reminded that this guy killed your mom, like that's fucked up, plus nobody owes him shit if he's sad like wtf. I can understand Alice doing it because her mom was a Saint, but Brian doing it because dude was sad is so strange to me. I actually felt like Brian was kinda horny for him and that's why he did it and kept asking him if stuff looks good on him, cuz Brian seems to ignore people's feelings when he's horny. Them hanging out and giggling with him at a restaurant was fucking crazy. I love this show and I think it's very funny and interesting, but my god, that's just too far...

To me, it felt like that whole "Brian is kind to people and so empathetic" storyline got inserted because he was freaking out about his husband wanting kids and Jimmy told him that he is always putting other people first. Even when Jimmy first said it, I was like um, what? And then boom, he sees the sad drunk driver who killed his best friend's wife and his immediate reaction is "Hey, let's go talk"? That seemed totally out of character from what we've seen of him as a snarky but loyal friend.

I agree, I thought it was super OOC too if he actually just wanted to be kind. I thought it only made sense if he got horny and was self sabotaging idk cuz why would he be sending selfies to Jimmy’s wife’s killer???? In all cases he looks bad but at least it would’ve been slightly in character if he was a little blinded by horniness 💀

Who among us hasn't been blinded by horniness occasionally?

But seriously, that whole scenario was totally out of character but also so obvious. Like we're supposed to think that Brian is really sensitive to other people's feelings because he saw a mopey murderer looking sad outside of the house of the person he killed? I find this whole plot unbelievable.

Yeah, like you can be the best person in the world and ignore a mopey murderer and that wouldn't automatically make you into a bad person, like c'mon, it's completely human and understandable to NOT befriend a fucking murderer of your best friend's wife :SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I have yet to watch this episode but am I missing something when it comes to Brett’s character and his consequences? I know people barely get jail time for drunk driving, even when it results in death (went to high school with someone who killed someone drunk driving) but there has been no mention about a trial or anything.

I was surprised when he didn’t recognize her when she went to the coffee shop. Even if there wasn’t a trial, for some reason, they made him feel oh so guilty yet he didn’t know what she looked like?

The consequences haven't been brought up aside from him being a sad boy that has been lonely after killing someone.

That's a really good point especially since he knew what Jimmy looked like. The only thing that might explain it if there was a trial was that Jimmy didn't let Alice testify but I don't see that going down well with her.

I agree with you on all counts.

But I also have to say Liz has kinda been an asshole to Derek since the start of the show. I like that he reacted the way he did and didn't just let her get away with this too. He is too nice and understanding when she's been nothing but mean to him for most of the show. She needs a wakeup call to stop taking him for granted. She wants to be applauded for doing "the right thing" by admitting this, but she knew she shouldn't have done it, yet did it anyway, all because Derek couldn't read her face once. Like, sorry, but he doesn't have to be able to read everything from your face, woman, you need to tell him. Also, I honestly doubt she can read HIS face when he's feeling bad. He vocalized his concerns to spare her that and she still ignored him. She has crazy expectations for this guy and he's already a better man than all the men around her. I don't want them to divorce because I want Derek on my screen, but I want her to check herself and be nicer to him.

Dude, yes to all of this. Everyone knows at this point that he is an amazing and supportive husband and Liz has come to the point of taking him for granted.

I feel like that could have been dealt with by her forgetting something important to him like his birthday or the anniversary of something that makes him sad and needs to lean on her but she's too busy wallowing in her shit that she ignores him. Anything except I'm sad and this guy from my past gets it so we should kiss about it crap.

Yeah, this was like the ultimate blow to a really nice person that doesn't really help with her already kinda unlikeable character tbh but I hope it helps her understand how she's been behaving and she realizes she actually loves him and life wouldn't be the same if he divorced her, and maybe start being supportive of HIM for a change

I hope that's where they are going with this because if it's a big thing and he eventually forgives her but they go back to the same thing, I'm gonna be pissed.

me too lmao I need this to be an opportunity for her to evolve as a character because she and Brian have been getting on my nerves lately so much and they both (of course) did the stupidest things possible this season
