I'm glad you finally got the help you needed but yes, it's horrible that you had to go through so much pain and turmoil that could've completely been avoided if doctors had just fucking listened. When I was about 16 or so I had horrible pain in my pelvic area and went to the ER, they did a CT scan and said they saw 'fluid' in my pelvis but couldn't determine exactly what was going on. For some reason, when my mom was driving me to the hospital, I remember thinking, "well, this is it." Like I had somehow known all along that something was wrong with me and this was the moment I'd become infertile or something. I've never wanted kids, luckily, but it still took ~10 more years to finally get diagnosed. I can only assume that that pain was a cyst rupturing - even though I got an ultrasound after I went to the ER and they didn't find anything (wtf?). And the only reason I got diagnosed in my 20s is because I was researching my own symptoms and discovered PCOS, then went to a gyno and said, "I think I have PCOS." We did blood tests, ultrasound, and she said, "Yeah it seems you have PCOS." NO SHIT. And all they offered is birth control pills. To be fair, I think it maybe did remind my body that it was supposed to be having a period every month; before I got diagnosed my periods had gone up to 50 days apart. I don't take bcp anymore but ever since then my periods have been mostly regular so that's very fortunate, even though I'm still overweight and have to shave my chin every day. Even though I'm taking metformin and spironolactone. And my scalp hair is thinning and the chin hair is getting even worse. It's normal to me at this point but it really does weigh on you when you're reminded every single day of this thing that's wrong with you and you can't just go out into the world without worrying that someone's gonna see your fucking 5'clock shadow. And of course insurance would never cover laser or electrolysis because those are "cosmetic." Yes, it's cosmetic, but it's a symptom of an incurable hormone disorder that further ruins my mental health by destroying any confidence. But since my periods are regular they can't tell me anything new or helpful. They just say try harder with your diet and exercise...hey guess what, I was also diagnosed with ADHD this year so sticking to any healthy routine is already way harder for me than a normal person, and it's hard for them too!

I'm seeing my gyno next week and I guess I'll ask for a higher spiro dose because idk what the fuck else to do at this point, besides everything I've already been told. Doctors, and this world, just really do not care about women. At all. If this affects 1 out of 10 women, maybe more, then we should know WAY more about it at this point. But it's a condition that only affects people with uteruses so who cares.

oh my god i feel you so hard, we have all the same symptoms, i'm also ADHD, and we're on the same medications. it is absolutely INSANE that we don't know more about PCOS. the lack of knowledge and support for us is criminal, because it affects your life in so many ways. like, it just tessellates out and fucks with everything
