i'm so confused...

like, i was just talking this morning with a coworker, wicked has never been a thing here, the closest thing was when glee covered its songs and somehow now the promo is everywhere, they are even selling wicked merch at the mueller...

Yep, I work in media and it has been hilarious receiving briefs about how we need to "educate audiences about the phenomenon that is Wicked", but "without saying it's a musical"

Give it up sis

Somewhere that musical theatre doesn’t exist, apparently

I was actually talking about the italian musical scene, and afaik, no, Wicked has never been performed there.

Wicked was never popular where I live either, this will be my first time seeing it, if I see it

How old are you? I feel like Wicked was huge when it came out, I remember it being EVERYWHERE, everyone talked about the book and it was on every bestseller and book club. And then when it became a musical everyone talked about the musical. So I’m not so surprised it’s huge now, it’s probably got all the original fans.

Honestly I did a social media cleanse for a month so went into this post thinking it would be a hit. Also saw the movie this past week and general public in NYC seemed to love it so the opinions here surprise me! I didn’t finish the book and never saw the musical so I went into this blind and actually enjoyed the story. But didn’t realize all this other stuff was happening in the background

37.

Also, tiny detail a lot of american ONTDers seem to always forget, not everyone here is from the USA and not everything that is huge in the USA has the same level of popularity elsewhere.

Yeah I realized after I saw replies to your comment that you weren’t US based. My bad, I should probably add a note at the end of my comment that I’m NYC based so experiences may vary.
