This just makes me sad? There's moments of "Gwen" here and there that you just want to yank out of...whatever this is. It's like when you're getting ready to go out and your bestie pops in and she's wearing this hideous shade of lipstick? You want to scrub it off her face, but your friend looks so happy that you're like "Awwww...." but at the same time you're like "Girl...that shade is NOT you?"
i feel like people who make comments like this never really listened to her lyrics. this is the "simple kind of life" she always wanted, she just used to look cooler singing about it.
Long time fan, and there used to be some stank to her that is non-existent in this song. Perhaps this is an outlier and the rest of the album is different. I'm glad she's at a great place in her life right now but creatively it's...I mean, it's important to evolve, to try new things. I'm not sure if this is the best direction, that's all.
no, i know what you mean, and i know you especially know your music! sadly though i think this is what we're going to get now that she's happy, though. i don't wish the worst on the artists i listen to so their creative output is better, but there's something toothless to this music that makes it difficult to invest in.
I like a good "fuck him, Jan" song but in all of her previous eras you can see the personal journey and growth. This is a step back into the bullshit land she was living with Gavin, and that's not good. I know people hate on Blake here but he appears to love the hell out of her and treats those kids like they're his own. This is a wonderful thing; give me bangers about how you went through hell, came out the other side, and found a true partner. Don't give me tunes about an old tea relationship from the past with someone who didn't deserve you in the first place! There's no passion here; it's like she wrote something paint-by-numbers and it's just...there. I'm thinking about Alison Morrisette's "You'll Never Know." That was a shady song too, but you felt that shit. I feel nothing in Gwen's song or performance.
i hear you. from the interviews with gwen i've read about this album, it sounds like "somebody else's" specifically was largely already written and she didn't really want to go there again but decided it would be good to start the album with a song about where she was pre-blake. so i'm not so sure how fiery her pen was when she was contributing lyrics to this, if she did at all (i'm assuming she did at least some based on album credits).
That's how I feel about this song.
