Took me a minute but I finally got out of the funk from finishing Mass Effect. Decided to start Dragon Age Origins so I can work my way up the series.

[Fifteen hours in...]Fifteen hours in and I'm thinking of starting over lol I'm not sure how but apparently I've already managed to miss out on at least 2 companions? Because I'm already almost finished with Redcliffe and so far I've only gotten Alistair, Morrigan and the dog. One of these companions I did meet, the Qunari imprisoned at Lothering, whom I haven't been able to set free because that Revered Mother c*nt won't fucking give me the key unless I threaten to kill her but what I'm NOT doing is losing 13 affection points with Alistair to do that, nope, so unfortunately the Qunari will be a goner. And then I learned that having some woman named Leliana in my party is basically the only way to get the fucking key from the b*tch (I am very pissed at this woman, sue me), but I never met this woman anywhere (I went straight from Flemeth's hut to Lothering then to Redcliffe). That or have my MC be a rogue with like 30 cunning to convince the old hag to give me the key.

But ALSO

It seems that by the time I'm fighting the night monsters at Redcliffe I could have like 3 different people in my party aside from Alistair and Morrigan (and the Qunari) and I'm like ??? WHERE ARE THEY?? It doesn't look like it's too soon for me to have gone there so how did I miss that many people??

The quest management in the game sucks almost as hard as ME's and I've missed out on completing one already. For a completionist like me this is very much unacceptable and another reason why I might restart. But I'm trying to muster the patience to do so because that part at the Tower of Ishal was very, very annoying.

So this has been a bit of a frustrating experience up till now. And don't even get me started on all the locked chests I can't open because only rogues can do that. I'm either starting over as one, or installing the Lock Bash mod to deal with
this.

I love Origins so muuuuuch. I wish they'd do a total remake so I can play on PS5.

[Spoiler (click to open)]and lol yeah I'd start over. You missed at least 2 companions. Maybe 3. Which Origin did you pick? Female Rogue Cousland is my canon play through.

Origins is great but like... lmao it's even better when you use walkthroughs because there is a LOT to miss... I def missed a lot my first like two times playing it.

I'm usually super confident in my ability not to miss anything in games unless it's something extremely obscure, because I take exploration very seriously, so I'm genuinely puzzled that this happened. It hurts my pride a little bit to use walkthroughs but... it'll hurt more to know I'm missing such essential pieces of the game lol This reminds me of my first BG3 playthrough where I managed to miss Gale entirely lol (ummm guess this happens more than I want to admit 😂)

I'm playing a male Dalish elf warrior, and I think I'll make the exact same character to start over, just maybe as a rogue instead.

Origins is still my favorite of the series but it's definitely something I would use a guide for, it can be annoying.

[Spoiler (click to open)]Also yeah, I would start over. You missed both Leliana and Sten (the Qunari). I love them both and they're useful companions to have. Esp Leliana, she's a rogue.

Yep, I'm convinced now that I have to start over, and I'll pull up some walkthrough so that these mistakes don't happen again when I'm even farther into the story. Also because I can already tell that the dog, while adorable, doesn't really cut it as a companion like a person would.

I will install the Extra Dog Slot mod though because I know I won't be able to send the dog away when it comes to me hahaha

For the companions, if you have a save that's still in Lothering (or at least pre-Lothering), you only need to go back that far not restart the whole thing.

Leliana is in the tavern in Lothering (as is a merchant who has another quest). Just over the bridge after the Chantry, on the right hand side. Get her, and you can get the Qunari
