TubiTV is one of the fastest growing streamers in the world, mostly because it is free and ad-supported. But did you know that you can find some of the strangest things if you peruse Tubi long enough? From confusing European horror movies to British films with ridiculous premises to 1970s American grindhouse films, step inside as I take you through some of the weirdest Tubi films I have seen recently. And good news - if you want to see these, most should still be available for free, at least in the US!

THE PACK / LA MEUTE (France) - 2010
I have indeed seen this, read the plot description, and I still cannot tell you what was going on other than... They were farming zombies?! Or the zombies just happened to be living at the farm? But was it even a farm? And why if they were in the "middle of nowhere" can you see Brussels in the background more than once? This French horror movie seemed to just be saying "Belgium is backwards" which was an interesting statement to make, but there are some extremely Saw-like contraptions and INSANE attempts at gore. They look silly as hell, but reality in this movie does not exist. The plot: "In the middle of a snowy no man’s land, Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn’t come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. She decides to return during the night but gets kidnapped by the bartender, La Spack, who turns out to be Max’s mother and needs to feed her kids, « The pack », a bunch of blood lusting ghouls. Charlotte now faces a terrifying reality: these ghouls are already dead… and hungry. Alone and in the middle of nowhere, she quickly realizes… she’s next on the menu!" Bonus points for this movie featuring in a two WORD cameo an early appearance by Matthias Schoenaerts.
WHITE DWARF (USA) - 1995
Did I see this as a child when it randomly released on VHS and dropped at my local exurban videostore? I did indeed. Has it made its way onto Tubi after having only been available via illegal YouTube upload for years? Yes. The plot - "An arrogant intern (Neal McDonough) from Earth studies under a healer (Paul Winfield) on a 31st-century planet beset by civil war." This was a backdoor pilot for Fox that they did not pick up (because we all know Fox and science fiction = disaster), but it has so much going on in 90 minutes - tidally locked planets, that weird thing in the poster you see, some distinctly Neverending Story vibes but make it science fiction, that it's worth a watch.

B&B (UK) - 2017
So you're saying that if this guy wasn't trying to prove a point after he ALREADY WON none of this would have happened?! And his husband initially went along with it for...reasons? "Marc and Fred return to a B&B to bait Josh, its Christian owner who had previously opposed them sharing a bed. Marc and Fred’s return visit is set to be weekend of mischief but events take a darker turn when Josh’s son reveals himself to be gay and another more imposing guest arrives, who seems to have something more sinister in mind." To be honest, still watching this one, but so far... Why do the gay guys spend a good chunk of the movie trying to guess "Gay or psychopath?" when, idk, they could have gone to Spain instead?

CUBAN FURY (UK) - 2013
Is it possible I overestimated how many entries I could muster for this list? Yes. So now strap in while I try and find some other stuff I watched recently on Tubi! As it turns out, though, I thought Cuban Fury, while a very inane movie, was very cute. An office worker who used to be a childhood Latin dance sensation picks it back up when his new boss arrives as a transfer from the US and it turns out she is a big fan of salsa. It's a very slight movie, but it will bring a smile to your face, and features a bevy of familiar faces.

OBSESSION / RENDEZ-VOUS (Netherlands) - 2015
This entire movie is basically a woman increasingly digging herself a deeper and deeper hole for herself because she wants to have sex with a younger man. "Simone needs a change in her life. When she inherits a decrepit mansion in the South of France, she decides to move there with her husband Eric and their two children and turn the mansion into a new home and Bed & Breakfast. While the chaos of the renovation grows, Simone flees into a thrilling affair with one of the French construction workers, the gorgeous twenty-year-old Michel. Slowly she loses control of her life and the French dream turns into her worst nightmare." The family's entire plan is so poorly thought out that of course terrible things ensue, and Every. Single. Male. Character. Is. Terrible. I mean, if anything, this movie is a lesson in "Trust No Man!", but the woman just... like... goes along with it?

FIDO (Canada) - 2006
A satirical take on zombies, the 1950s, and authoritarianism, this Canadian film is just WILD. "When a cloud of space dust causes the dead to rise as ravenous zombies, the ZomCon Corp. emerges to conquer the creatures and domesticate them to become menial workers and pets for humans. Now, in an idyllic town, a skeptical boy (K'Sun Ray) finds a best friend in his family's new fiend, which he promptly names Fido (Billy Connolly). But Fido's control collar malfunctions, and the neighbors wind up on the menu." It might not fully succeed at what it's going for, but this film was just silly fun and features Carrie-Anne Moss in some amazing 50s costumes, so there is also that.
Source 2 3 4 5 6ONTD, what are your favorite weird Tubi finds? And as I said, I overestimated how many movies I had seen on Tubi, but there was a call for posts and I answered as only I knew how - with movies I watched for stupid reasons! Also that is what I get for not sending this back through the HTML editor and then back to the new editor... LJ why are you like this?!
