When I was in high school I realized my middle + last name flowed more easily than my first + last name, but at the ripe old age of 17 I thought it was too late to switch

If I had it to do all over again when I got to college I would have started going by my middle name

It sucks how we're just sort of stuck with whatever choice we made in high school/college re: names. I would love to start over with my middle name but it feels like you can't do that when you're almost 40.

yeah maybe if i were to move somewhere brand new & have to start completely over that would be an opportunity to do it, but at this point i'd just be creating work for my friends who've known me for years and would have to start calling me by a new name just because i like the sound better

especially since my logic is that my middle + last name combo is easier to enunciate thus easier to hear/remember, and my friends already know my name at this point (i hope)

Funny you say that about starting over. I'm looking at moving abroad in 2025 and I am trying to decide how I want to use my name; do I go full name? Same name I do now? A different shortening of it? There are options and I kind of hate my name on me but like it for other people. So I am planning to do just this.

I did go by middle name in college. I wanted to legally change it but my parents wouldn't help me & I couldn't figure it out on my own & then I felt stuck with it.

My dad's mother dropped her first name when she got married so she had middle name+maiden name+last name so for a while I thought I would just do that too but it seems like I'll be single forever so I don't think that will happen.

My parents use my first name more, but aware I do not like it. My sister switched to my middle name when her daughter started talking as my niece only uses my middle name.

When I meet new people I noramlly give them my middle name as they do not need my legal name. The exception is work because I guess they ned your legal name & he tells new emplyees my name so that's what I'm stuck with. Also doctor's offices & such keep using my first name.
