Part of me gets annoyed cause my first reaction was "oh damn I hope gets better" and "yeah no shit" because a lot of them help further the cool image behind smoking.

But then there is a hypocritical part of me that also acknowledging that it does look good/cool on film and pics as a non-smoker.

But yeah pretty much all my faves that smoke I imagine will end up like this or worse.

I forgot earlier what it was but there was some tweet or a post here about smoking that got me thinking of how I use to see billboards for smoking more when I was a kid compared to now. I think the anti-tobacco industry did a pretty good in the 90s and 00s about telling people the dangers of it. Although nowadays you got the vaping industry and the like.

Oh yeah! I was born in 84 and even I remember the billboards of that damn cartoon Camel smoking and how “cool” he looked. A literal cartoon character smoking; ofc it struck kids eyes!

I wonder if my grandpa's smoking made me immune from thinking it looked cool. It smelled awful, it made his fingers and fingernails yellow, and it left him unable to breathe. I don't think Joe Camel stood a chance against that decrepit biological reality.

Plus they had like a points system that you buy a lot of packs & could turn in the points and get stuff. Camel did it & I think Marlboro did it too.

I remember flipping through the Camel cash catalog. Honestly I got henley from them that I loved and wore for yeeeears. Saved the buttons. Thinking back now it's crazy how much my mom was smoking to get that stuff.

Yeah it doesn't help that a lot of vaping companies are owned by large tobacco companies.

lmao I'm fixing to look real stupid all over this post commenting with the icons I have... there's something very ~cinematic~ and cool about how it can be filmed but the plain reality of it isn't glamorous to me so when I see somebody smoking IRL I'm just repelled by it

the thing that irritates me the most about tobacco use is it's so inconsistent how it affects peoples' health. you could die in your forties from lung cancer or you can live well into your seventies or longer
