This was the first Doctor Odyssey post I had up in my emails, but I thought you would like to know my dad's reaction to episode 6.
"This show is on a regular network?"
LMAOOOOO.

Imagine it on FX even, but HBO...
Although I don't think HBO would take a highly unserious drama about a cruise ship that is not grounded in reality at all. And Netflix would cancel it.

And some executive at ABC knew that when the pitch included "throuple" the ratings would massively increase. Once they get over the are they/aren't they queerbaiting thing, I think the ratings will spike again LMAO. But even that didn't save Our Flag Means Death, but also Zaslav.
I am also now trying to explain to my father some of the theories about the show and he seems even more confused.

I hope the season finale at least gives a better indication about what is actually happening and if this will remain a silly soap opera or if it's going to make a hard left and beeline for Lost territory. Although once that turn is made, there is no going back!
And re: "Is it purgatory? Is it a coma? Is it hell?" (Oh God what if this isn't Lost but actually The Good Place again lmao) there is a lot they can run with, or we can all be insane and it's nothing, but given that the fans picked up fast that they were hinting at a throuple and that was confirmed, I have to believe they know what they're doing with all these weird touches that make the Odyssey seem unrealistic. And I had another thought as to what is going on. Have you seen the episode of Black Mirror called San Junipero? What if the Odyssey is San Junipero?! Although I may have told you that theory before IDK, it came to me Saturday night.

Yeah, the Tristan and Avery are HIS nurses theory is a pretty commonly held one LOL, but it can go so many ways and all we know is that they're hinting that it is going that way. They're not even being coy about it, either, they were hinting at it in the TRAILERS for the show. But yeah, they can get off the ship...to go to the same beach over and over again, but that's beside the point. But what would be up with the transitory nature of the passengers? Are the crew members accidental grim reapers or something? And I don't think Heaven would give Tristan his mother only for her to abandon him again LMAO. If I had to guess... I would lean toward the coma theory.

I did spoil my dad for episode 7 that the word throuple would indeed come up LOL.

Oh shit, you know what? The captain once talked about how one day they'd replace everyone with computer programs LMAO.
THIS IS FUCKING SAN JUNIPERO: THE CRUISE SHIP.
That was like episode 1.

Well, look - Tristan has a good chance of having a deadly disease (Huntington's) and legit told Max one "have you been in cryo sleep the last five years", Avery... Well, idk about Avery, skip her for a sec (unless she died of appendicitis because she thought it was food poisoning and was being stubborn), the Captain has a broken heart after his wife died, Max had COVID BAD....
They're all living in a computer program of a ship and Total Recall exists! IT WOULD MAKE SENSE. Sort of. I mean, it wouldn't NOT make sense if that ended up being what it was.
