I was listening to a podcast with a producer from Lord of the Rings and he was talking about how before the first movie came out they did this clips reel thing at Cannes to build up hype (because everyone thought LotR was unfilmable and thought fantasy was silly) and it blew people away. Then the executives, despite the hype, decided the best thing to do was to go quiet, keep things low-key until the actual movie came out rather than getting overexcited and continually promoting the film for the next year to the point that everyone would be exhausted.

Anyway. Wicked has not done that.

It was Mark Ordesky on The Friendship Onion, Billy Boyd and Dom Monaghan's short-lived podcast. I just listened to the episodes with LoTR guests.
