Prostate cancer is highly treatable when caught early! If you love someone with a prostate, have them get their prostate specific antigen tested. It's a simple blood test. My dad's prostate cancer was stage four and had already metastasized to his bones by the time it was caught. He really didn't have any symptoms before that. But a test years earlier may have saved his life.

Ty for sharing about that test--my dad's dad had prostate cancer and he does get his regular checks, but still!!!

I just realized both my grandpas had it and yet my dad didn't bother getting checked until his older brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Damn. That sounds like a friend of mine: both his paternal grandparents died of colon cancer, his dad wasn't on top of getting checkups, and then he was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and died less than a year later

My dad got a yearly checkup so it pisses me off that a PSA test wasn't included. Like, if you're already going to take blood samples why not just run that test as well? But yeah, my dad generally wasn't on top of his health and avoided going to the doctor.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. My uncle had prostate cancer but it was caught early and I think it's been like 10 years. He didn't really have to do anything other than get surgery.

Thanks bb. Both of my grandfathers had prostate cancer and it was caught early enough that all they needed was surgery. I wish that was the case for everyone.
