I'm reading ASOIAF for the first time and the way he writes young girls is disgusting. I remember GOT getting a lot of flack back in the day for the sexual violence but they actually toned it down a lot.

Alot of this fiction uses the "time period" to just torture their female characters.

I’d say the show is worse. I.e. what they did to Sansa.

Actually the character, Jeyne Poole, who has that storyline in the book suffered worse under Ramsey than did Sansa. For instance, Ramsey had "Reek" prepare his bride for him by taking her first before he had her on their wedding night. D&D lessened what Ramsey's wife went through when they changed it from Jeyne to Sansa. Just because it was Sansa instead of Jeyne doesn't make it any less terrible.

That’s not the point. It’s that they had Sansa there period. They had Sansa get raped when she wasn’t in the books for the purpose of Theon’s character. The producers felt the need to incorporate rape for an actress who had been there since she was a kid.

I love those books but yeah. LOTS of these types of problems. I wish more authors had worlds so deep and rich with lore but it's a rare treat.
