I know basically nothing about the industry, but I'm baffled that they can tell you to be on set during your day off. If I'm obligated to do anything work-related during that day then it's not a day off. Unless there's different types of days off in TV/film?? Like being "on-call" in healthcare?
Yeah, considering how organized the film and tv world is I'm surprised that all of a sudden it would just be like, "We need you on set." Sounds like a poorly run production imo.
I feel like all jobs where you have "scheduled days off" (rather than weekends where no one goes in) the people in charge are always trying to get people in on their day off because they try and get away with paying fewer people than they actually need available (the service industry is notorious for this). Doctors are also underpaid for being on-call. We need to expand on the French model and just fine the crap out of any employer who calls you at home to do work.
