A reminder that the 4B movement is transphobic, they openly identify as TERFs and only have an interest in supporting cis women.

I feel like transphobia exists or rears it's head in any forms of feminist movements, I don't think it's an inherent thing, but whenever you have something that's focused on women, you're going to have terfs in the space.

I think the rules of 4B transcend the actual movement. South Korea in and of itself is quite trans phobic, so this isn't a shocker. But, I think it can be done well elsewhere.

Sure, but this movement was literally founded on Womad/radical feminist Korean forums, those four basic tenets that make up the name are easy to co-opt but why cherrypick ideology from a group that actively harasses pregnant women/women with children, or that protested against transwomen getting into a woman's university?

No feminist movement is perfect of course, and if women are rallying to be celibate or shun men then go for it! But why attach yourself to a named movement that exists within a specific context while trying to ignore that context?

The movement is relatively new, especially in the west. Most people are unaware about the issues within it. However what's resonating with them is the individual rules, and I think most women who do adhere to it, will do some separate from the movement.

Most people only reference 4B because it's the most known movement of it's kind. If somebody WERE to announce an adherence to 4B without mentioning 4B people would say "that's just 4B" or accuse them of co-opting it. So, it's easier to just SAY 4B. Just put the disclaimer on it.

Most people are unaware about the issues within it.

It's frustrating to see this, and then get pushback when trying to share these issues to make people learning about the movement aware.

Are you basing this off of that one twitter page? That person is not a leader in 4B, 4B doesn’t have ‘leaders’ in the west.

No I'm basing it on articles and a research study on the 4B movement, there's an entire section on Wikipedia dedicated to talking about how a large subsection of this movement splintered into homophobia/transphobia and it links to at least five separate sources.

it has strains of transphobia, girl-bossing, & hyperindividualism. largely, the movement is nothing radical nor is it collective in any sense. it actively moves against it by shunning parents & children, sex workers, building communities of care, etc. this is probably why it’s so attractive to western liberal women.

No one is checking credentials. It isn't 4B + 1Hatetranswomen. You can do 4B and love transwomen.
