I'm also playing Veilguard lol. I'm enjoying the game a lot, but the combat is very 'Mass Effect but make it Dragon Age'. It's enjoyable but I don't like both series having the same combat. Plus the enemy AI is garbage, why tf is it always targeting me. My companions are basically useless at drawing fire. I don't remember the ME companions being this useless in battle (in 2 and 3, anyway). ALSO why on earth do they start you off with a bunch of ranged fighters. I'm always a mage so it's been kinda ass to not have a front line person. But I picked up Lucanis so at least there's one finally. Story has been fine but nothing special so far.

Yeah the Veilguard combat is very much MEA combat. Which was fun and I like it better than the original trilogy but for a DA game seems a bit much, especially the dodge mechanic. I’m still having fun with it though. But fuck enemies with shields.

Playing a rogue from the start wasn’t so bad but I feel for mage players because oof at being numero uno with aggro so early on. I’m grateful Davrin and Taash each have an ability to taunt but equipping it then takes away one of their other combat abilities you might want to use. So it’s a double edged sword. Same for anyone who can heal you though.

I don't even remember MEA combat lol, but it's seemed very familiar, so I guess that's why. Yeah, it's definitely fun, but the constant dodging...ENOUGH. Let me have a minute to think!!

I heard Davrin or both can auto taunt eventually? They really said fuck mage players for the early part of the game tho lmao

Seriouslyyy… Before I recruited Davrin, my mage was just rolling around on the ground and running in circles during combat

Yeah the combat feels fun when I'm allowed to actually use spells and combos. It would be one thing if staff mages had a close range parry without needing to switch to the blade and orb. I don't want to use the blade, I want to cast spells from the other side of the battlefield!! Taash and Davrin need an auto-taunt always on, it's not like they can die.
