I wasn't sure what to expect from arts & crafts week but I liked the three challenges. Some of the focaccia paintings were really creative! I loved the Mother Nature portrait that Marcus made. It was so pretty and delicate. Erica using lotus root and onion slices for the dinosaur was such a great idea, and she was smart to paint the focaccia surface with squid ink so that the bones would stand out even more. I also loved Jen's kimono. She took a lot of different risks and it turned out so great.
I liked that the technical challenge had a lot of elements but that they were all well within the bakers' abilities. It was a great way to show people at home that something that seems so complicated is totally doable. The origami technique they used for the outside was so cool.
I was a little less enthused about the cartoon cakes because I wasn't sure how they would turn out, but most of them were pretty good. Marcus was really ambitious to use only a single piece of fondant to cover his cute little piggy. It's so hard to do that when the cake isn't just a plain cylinder. Jen's ice cream cones were so cute!
