This is probably not an unpopular opinion here, but in general... The first Joker movie wasn't good, either.

I haven't seen it but the premise itself is just boring to me. The entire appeal of the Joker as a character is that he specifically doesn't have a tragic backstory, he's just a psychopath torturing and murdering for shits'n'giggles. Every other villain, give me some sort of saddo backstory and I'm fine with it, but it was just pointless for the Joker.

On that note, plenty of great actors could have pulled off their own variation of what Phoenix did. That was not an Oscar-winning role.
