I finished this last night, it was mostly solid but I thought the ending was weak and undermined some of the pluses of the show and the time gap between wandavision ending and this coming out was... excessive
Technically Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) is the stopgap between the two. But if I had to put money on why we waited so long, it would be because Feige & co. (1) severely underestimated The Scarlet Witch's popularity and (2) were too scared to potentially alienate audiences by plunging into the magic side of Marvel.
There's a reason AAA was the cheapest MCU project produced to date, and that's not just because of the actors' salaries.
i am not even sure the delay is that deep tbh, wandavision wrapped during the covid times which fucked up marvel’s production timeline generally, they were already committed to a bunch of other shit, then there were the strikes, and at some point in the past couple years amidst all these external factors marvel had a come to jesus moment regarding the pace of their output bc people were becoming less patient with all their incredibly underbaked projects… it’s been a messy time. (and then i think they most likely could have had it out earlier by a couple months but wanted it to air in spooky season)
That's a really good point, tbh! I guess factoring in everything you said, the wonky release schedule makes a lot more sense. (Still sucks, but makes sense lol)
It's very unbelievable to me that Agatha was stuck under Wanda's spell for three years. Then again, I found it unbelievable to think Wanda was alone for a year before the events of MOM. I think MCU needs to prioritise projects and not spread itself so thin.
MCU's pacing, both in-universe and outside of it, is really strange.
the mcu really dug themselves in a hole by having everything happen in "real time" just because 3 years past in real time doesn't mean your fictional universe had to also move in the exact same time frame
At the risk of sounding way too invested in the MCU, the current timeline has them in 2026 at the time of AAA (or 2027 at the latest, since WandaVision had a whole Halloween bit... it's confusing).
Timeline-wise, WandaVision (2021) takes place/begins in the year 2023.
I think WandaVision also lasted a week in-canon (????). I think the Halloween episode makes sense, given Wanda was basing things on sitcoms, and there's always a holiday episode, but…
Endgame happened; a week (?) later, Wandavision, which itself apparently lasted for a week; then MOM a year later for IDK a few days I suppose; and then AAA three years later. If you really want to get into the nitty gritty, MCU wiki has a timeline. (I've linked 2023 because the WandaVision one is quite detailed…)
I agree with everything you said, I think it started out strong and then bollocksed it up trying to shoe horn itself back into the MCU narrative. And the Agatha backstory was weirdly weak and I was disappointed with the way they resolved her story. And the other women; as soon as the focus shifted to be all about Teen I think the story lost its way.

It was still solid overall. Maybe if I knew the source material better, it would have been more satisfying?
I'm just not sure where they are going with this story now.
I have heard/read people here say the next installment is VisionQuest but I don't even know what that means. 😆

yes yes yes, the way they made all these fascinating, richly characterised older women just part of ~his~ story really bothered me
