Happy Saturday, ONTD. Spooky month may technically be over but we are keeping our creepy theme with 2022's Pearl followed by X. Both are directed by Ti West and star Mia Goth.

As I posted in the FFA, I saw this two nights ago and I didn't really like it enough to see it again LOL, and seeing your reply in the FFA, I will return tomorrow since I also saw X already. I'm gonna watch Crash (the Cronenberg one) I think instead.

BUT X does come first in the trilogy and I think seeing it in order does add some weight to it, even though chronologically Pearl comes first. It's that way for a reason just my two cents LOL. Seeing Pearl would take a way some of the surprises for X because X sets up the Pearl story.

(actually, gonna ETA to say I think you guys need to see X first because thinking back, if you see Pearl first, it takes a way from X a significant degree)

I will see you tomorrow for MaXXXine.

It's the best idea because I fucking hate Twilight I'll just say that LOL.

we talked about it last week and the consensus was we watch Pearl first. if the majority of people want to see them the other way around, that's fine.

I have no horse in the race so whatever you choose! I must have been really out of it during that convo though because I wouldn't have watched Pearl otherwise haha (I saw X in theaters).

it was on Sunday, did you join us then? I've seen both Pearl and X and I watched X first but I can't remember Pearl explaining or calling back to X a whole lot. but I don't have the best memory lol

Oh, no I didn't because I saw Trap before and hated it lmao. There are some movies I don't mind seeing again, and that was definitely one. I think X is stronger first because it sets up the dynamic of what is going on at the house while making Maxine the rightful lead of the series, and Pearl just provides backstory on a character you meet there. Also, Pearl somewhat spoils X to an extent. Just my two cents. If you've seen Pearl, you know what's going on in X before the characters do or the story lets on.

can you specify what part makes it important to see X first? you can DM me or just spoiler tag it

So what you're saying is, this trilogy is overhyped crap?

I've had them in my queue/watch list for a bit now, but I haven't been able to get myself to watch any of them yet. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't seen maxxxine, but I gave X and Pearl 3.5/5 - they're not God's gift to horror like some people claim.

It sounds like they are still worth at least a watch? I mean, 3.5/5 isn't THAT bad. Especially for horror. 😆

They're fine, they're just overhyped - especially Pearl. It was very slow at times for me.

Well, I haven't even seen a teaser for any of them and don't know what they're even about.

That might be in my favour. 😆

I love going in blind.
