The word, newly defined in 2024 as ‘characterized by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude’, was crowned Collins' Word of the Year 2024. Inspired by the Charli XCX album, it became one of the most talked about words of 2024. More than a successful album, ‘brat’ is a cultural phenomenon resonating with people, and ‘brat summer’ established an aesthetic and a way of life.
Runner ups for the title included: brain rot, era, looks maxing and anti tourism.
