Phenomenal. THEY STUCK THE LANDING. MARVEL ACTUALLY DID IT!
[Spoiler (click to open)]I have a lot of questions about Agatha's origins, the Darkhold (which I'm surprised wasn't answered or included, but I would suspect she acquires it after Nicholas), when and how she began with Rio, where her Salem trial comes into it, Nicholas Scratch and her sacrificing the witches… But what a phenomenal end! I love that episode 9 recontextualised the entire show, and really changed how you view Agatha and Billy throughout. I originally thought Agatha's surprise at the door appearing in episode two was because of Sharon's non-magical self, but it was because it was a lie all along!
The story of grief and death and love… and a mother's love, in how Agatha kept Nicholas alive with the Ballad that would eventually become Lorna Wu's protection spell to keep her daughter safe, something Agatha failed to do for her son… I love how Wanda's love for Billy and Tommy was prevalent through this even though she wasn't present. Sisterhood, womanhood, motherhood, boyhood… I really loved that this show was an exploration of love.
I do hope the Witches' Road becomes an alternate realm, because I don't think Billy destroyed it like Wanda did the Hex, but that he just closed the door to it. It's one of my favourite places in the comics, and I'm a huge fan of witches, so its existence only fleshes it out even more.
I was disappointed as a Wanda fan that we didn't get confirmation that she was alive, but I guess we did in some cases because no one knows. The Witches' Road is a Scarlet Witch story, so while I enjoyed the show, I wish we had gotten that tie-in.
I do hope we get the Agatha/Wanda mentorship because MCU has a big problem when it comes to women, and I don't like the idea of that relationship moving to Agatha/Billy instead.
I love that they kept Agatha as greedy and selfish but contextualised it with empathy and sympathy and showed how she is a good person who went about things in a self-centred way. She's still the antagonist, but she's such a well-rounded character now. I feel like she got the treatment Loki failed to get with his show, where I felt he was woobified.
I have so many thoughts, but I'm going to leave it at that so I can rewatch.
Episodes 7 and 9 are my favourites. What amazing episodes. Let Jac run the Magicverse of MCU.
