There have been recent rumours that Greta Gerwig is pushing Netflix to give her planned Narnia reboot a theatrical release. Earlier this week, Puck reporter Matthew Belloni reported she had approached Imax about releasing her upcoming adaptation before it hits Netflix.

THR has more details now. Their sources say Imax and Netflix are in fact in talks, with a tentative plan of releasing the film in theatres over Thanksgiving 2026 before it debuts on Netflix around Christmas. An apparent roadblock right now is that theatre chains might not accept such a short window. In addition, THR speculates there would be backlash from the other major studios if Imax gave priority to the notoriously theatre-avoidant Netflix.

Netflix tends to give its films a minimal theatrical release at most. Perhaps the closest they've come to the plan proposed was when they gave Glass Onion a 600-theatre release over Thanksgiving week in 2022. The movie arrived on the streamer on December 23, a month after its one-week theatrical window.

honestly curious to see what happens here, though i could easily see the talks falling apart. if they do reach a deal though, the ripple effects could be interesting.
