Also i rewatched both this is us and the where we are tour movie and wow, you can see the life drained out of zayn by WWA tour. In TIU, they really all seemed to love each other, but you could see how overworked they were. The fire pit scene made me cry. Liam was so positive, too :(. Liam and Harry seemed the most passionate and driven, tbh. And then I’m WWA, zayn just had no energy and looked like he wanted to cry the whole time.

Yeah, same. I also didn’t love MM. when zayn left I gave Four a shot though and kind of got renewed interest since that album is so good.

Simon knew boybands had a shelf life and was determined to get every cent out of them, their health be damned.

I also kinda checked out during that tour, I remember feeling overwhelmed by the rhythm of their releases and apparently they were overwhelmed as well. I ended up loving the album 1 year later but and during Four they seemed more comfortable (maybe because they were more involved in the writing process)

I think liam was the only one that truly wanted to be in a boyband forever

Louis also said he never saw himself as a solo artist. Louis and Liam wrote a lot together and were instrumental in creating their sound, so I think they found it creatively fulfilling where the other three didn’t per se.

it was a crazy schedule, and definitely by the end it was probably really artistically frustrating for some of them. zayn especially, but he wrote about disordered eating in a grasp at control bc they really had none. it's not a surprise that he couldn't just jump back into a crazy schedule in his solo career, or why niall and harry take a while between releases

Yeah, I have given Zayn a lot of shit in the past but now I feel bad given that he was thrown into something he never could totally comprehend, never totally wanted, and dealt with an ED and lifelong mental health issues.

I really don't know how they managed it. Like I was a massive Spice Girls fan and they had the same sort of schedule, yet they only lasted a couple of years really before they burnt out. 1D somehow did more than double that, and it was probably an even more exhausting time to be famous with social media/lack of privacy too.
