Honestly, I think men who aren’t trying to be malicious but still have no idea genuinely just do not care. Like, they don’t care at all until it affects someone they know and even then it’s a coin toss whether they’ll ask if you’re exaggerating or overreacting or assuming the worst of a strange man. Like, my guy, you’re supposed my friend/boyfriend; how are you still automatically trying to defend a STRANGER who made me feel unsafe?!

Tbh I knew my ex didn’t care about me when my mother would call or text me when I had a closing shift that ended at 11:30pm and would then have to walk home alone for 20-25 minutes in the dark and she asked if my bf at the time would wait up for me and I scoffed like “No, he’s always asleep when I get in.” She was like “He doesn’t come to meet you and walk you home? He doesn’t wait up to make sure you’re safe?” and I just thought to myself “I don’t think it occurs to him at all to even think of doing any of that…” Like, I felt pretty okay walking home alone because I lived downtown and there was a lot of wide sidewalks with lighting, but I mean… yeah, felt shitty to think about how little he cared about me getting home safely, especially since I would also be walking fast/purposefully and looking all around me and holding my phone in my hand just in case. My most recent ex, on the other hand, would make sure I got into my building okay when he dropped me off and would wait until I got home and texted him I was okay if I dropped him off. First ex I mentioned only had a brother whereas my most recent ex has a sister, so idk maybe that has something to do with it.
