men just don't get it

i took a nice solo bike ride yesterday, beautiful fall weather, and all i could think about was how empty the trail was at times and keeping an eye on my surroundings

UGH there's this beautiful trail near my home, but I'm always scared when I walk it alone. Once I saw a strange acting man approaching from the opposite direction, and just turned and left. It made me so mad.

This!!!! I love hiking (I know, dating app worst nightmare if I were a dude 😂) but haven’t gone as much as I’d like to because I’m so nervous about what I’ll come across. My friend’s husband has offered to go with me and I love him but I want to go on my own without having to be nervous. Always the bear.

My mum and I were walking a beautiful trail a couple months ago, and we genuinely couldn't enjoy it because of how hypervigilant we were.

It's truly infuriating how many mundane things women just cannot do out of fear of being raped/kidnapped/murdered.

i only go on walks with my german shepherd and i'm still constantly keeping an eye out. i legit wouldn't go on these walks without him

ETA: i also went for a big breed so i'd feel more safe at home. i really hate the way we have to think as women

I can relate. Even though she’s on the smaller side of the breed, I know my German Shepherd keeps me safe on walks as well, simply for the fact that no men talk to me (about 99% of the time anyway) when she’s with me.

I have a large-ish pittie mix but she is boy crazy and thus probably useless. After I adopted her I thought I had a good security dog because she is extremely territorial and barks at everything that gets near the house. But after seeing her meet my husband's friends or electrians that have come to the house... she would dump me for any dude that calls her a good girl. What a pick me bitch.

I visited a trail near me with a friend, and after walking for about 10 minutes a man popped out from between the bushes and walked past us towards the entrance. It startled us but we assumed he was homeless and sleeping, so we kept going for about 20 minutes towards the lake - which is very secluded. I suddenly felt this dread wash over me, and said we should skip the lake and go to the top, where 20 other young people were watching the sunset.

After an hour, my friend said "look over there", and there was the man, standing still, staring at us. My friend said he had been standing there staring directly at us FOR HALF AN HOUR, he was turned away from the view and everyone else just to look at us. When both us looked directly at him, he left. I kept wondering, we were both women in our 20's and he still followed us. I'm afraid to think what would've happened if we were alone with him.
