I’m glad plus sizes are now actual plus sizes. I was always plus size growing up and I was legitimate plus size, not hollywood or fashion plus size and it was hardly ever portrayed accurately.
An acquaintance’s little sister became a model when she was like a sophomore or junior in high school. She was a legit working model traveling internationally for work. I feel like she had a body like Wendy Peppercorn and she was considered plus size in fashion. It is nice having authentic representation. The sad thing is that Kate probably was considered chubby back then because we were so deep in heroin chic.

In Dave Holmes’ book he said he was talking to a music exec who liked Britney Spears because “she was a little fat.” It’s fucking insane what the standards were.

James Cameron nicknamed her "Kate Weighs-a-lot" during the filming of Titanic. Supposedly it was a joke. ¬_¬

this is a myth! as per this archived web 1.0 fansite transcript of a 2004 interview: https://www.oocities.org/mccwinslet/article01.html

and i can’t remember where i read this but i’m 90% james cameron is on record somewhere being like “and another thing that’s great about kate for the role is that she’s beautiful from literally any possible angle”

james cameron has done his fair share of Stuff but on the subject of kate winslet he seems to have behaved: Acceptably

Thank you for letting me know! I'm glad Cameron didn't do this particular thing but it says a lot about the media that it got spread around anyway, doesn't it?

Oh Kate was 100% considered not just chubby but fat. She's so fucking gorgeous and curvaceous in that movie but it was definitely still a time when women were supposed to have bones jutting out everywhere.

When I actually look back at all the characters that were portrayed as fat but really weren't, it's no wonder so many young girls had body dysmorphia. Chrissy in Now and Then, that one character in Grease, Sara Rue on Popular, America Ferrera in Ugly Betty...those are the main ones that come to mind.
