Idk what she thought she was accomplishing with this but it makes her look bad. I like her music and I love to see a lesbian have so much mainstream success but she’s not very good at being a celebrity. She needs to learn to let things go. The power differential between her and the photog makes this inappropriate.

Idk why she decided to do this at Olivia’s premiere, taking all the attention for herself. She seems like that friend that you can’t take nice places.

While I absolutely agree that she should let things go, this seems like a pretty toxic mentality - rude is rude, the end. Just bc there’s a power imbalance doesn’t mean the less powerful person automatically gets a free pass. It’s like when someone deliberately spews vitriol in a celebs’ instagram comments and when said celebrity replies, folks are like “her fans are gonna come for them”. The solution is pretty simple- don’t be an asshole and you won’t be a target. Chappell is annoying af, I’ve come to agree with that. That still doesn’t give anyone the right to be rude to her just to get a reaction.

I read somewhere that the photographer was not even speaking to her when she snapped at him the first time? Not sure how true that is though or where the source is.

I will say re the reaction, not making it ok but the more she does this I feel like people will just continue to be rude to her for clicks. Not trying to sound victim blame-y but just concerned that this may not be the best approach for her.

I have no idea if it's the same photographer, but the VMAs incident, they were clearly not talking about her.

Not clearly at all since this is a loud, overwhelming environment where photographers hurl abuse at celebrities pretty often to get a reaction. You already made a whole ass post just to try and create a narrative that Chappell comes from a privileged background and now this? Seriously, girl, log off and go touch some grass.

IA and she’s pretty hypocritical. Like her comments about being above H&M (as charli is doing a shoot with them) and yet her songs are being used everywhere on commercials for Target and Marshall’s? She seems all over the place and contradicts herself every two seconds.

It’s hard for me to judge, because I am not fully informed by the context which led to her reacting this way. But my initial reaction agrees with you, to be honest. I’m a big fan of her music, and happy to see the representation and success she has had. But there is A LOT of privilege and power that comes with being a celebrity, and she has chosen, and continues to choose, that lifestyle but making herself a public figure and attending events like this, and being active on a public social media accounts. I feel she needs to step back and assess what she is reallly looking for.

If this happened at a work event public, I would also side eye that person, to be honest. But I can reserve judgement as I am not fully informed

"taking all the attention for herself" yeah, a woman should definitely not speak up just in case she takes all the attention for herself

I feel mixed on her cause on one hand I don’t think it’s wrong to call out people if they’re being rude to you but on the other hand I’ve been seeing quotes from her saying how she’s more of an artist and not totally into the fame aspect.

But she’s attending all these things that will increase her profile and visibility. Which I don’t have an issue with or anything but she does contradict herself.

idk what else she's been attending, but at least here she probably attended to support her friend

Why does it make her look bad? She’s standing up for herself.

tbh a lot of celebs are like this (and by "like this" I mean assertive cause I think she's doing nothing wrong here) she just gets more attention for it every time she stands up for herself IN PART I think because she's so mainstream right now and in part because she's a queer woman
